This morning’s paper came with the news that Jeff Hanson, a Twin-Cities-based singer, died in an accident in his St. Paul loft. He was only 31.

I’d never heard of him until two weeks ago, when Esteban brought home Jeff’s self-titled CD. “That’s a guy?” I kept asking. “Is that seriously a dude?” I couldn’t believe that a man could produce such a sweet, lyrical voice. (If you’re never heard of Jeff, check him out on YouTube.)

Ironically, I was humming “I just don’t believe you” when Esteban told me the news this morning.

We’ve lost a beautiful, unique voice—and a superb songwriter.
