Waking from a deep (space) sleep

09Sep09

Have you ever been awed by the night sky?

I’ll admit it’s not too impressive if you live in a city. But if you’re out in the Boundary Waters or in a desert in Peru, it’s absolutely breathtaking. All at once, that vast blinking blanket makes me feel incredibly lucky and totally insignificant. I’ve never lost my sense of wonder at the beauty of all those stars.

And I never would have imagined that seeing them up close would be even more dazzling, until NASA posted the first few images from its newly repaired Hubble telescope today. For once, I’m thrilled to see my tax dollars at work.

Congrats, NASA!
