My pen name is pronounced HY-duh in German (with the emphasis on the “hi”). But if you’re into 19th century literature you can call me Ishmael instead.

What I do: I’m an amateur photographer, typography geek, nature lover, and Oxford comma enthusiast — though not always in that order.

Favorite pastime: Traveling. I’m insatiably curious about other countries and cultures.

Other hobbies: Collecting (quotes, rocks, seeds, stamps, stories). Daydreaming. Gardening. Hiking. Journaling. Learning languages. Playing piano. Reading. Wandering aimlessly.

Worst job: I was once a stable hand, and on my very first day a mare peed on me. But it was worth it for the free horseback riding.

My first published piece was an obituary. (Thankfully, not my own. Ha.)

Favorite city: Paris. I save every spare penny to visit as often as I can.

Medication allergies: None that I know of — but I haven’t tried them all yet.

“What camera do you use?” I get that question a lot. I’ve been using Panasonic mirrorless (micro four-thirds) cameras since 2008. Currently I own a GX85 and GX7, and mostly use the stock 14-140 mm zoom lens.

Favorite book, quote, food, song, etc.: For that, you’ll have to see the rest of my blog.

Thank you for stopping by!
